Here is a great campaign by Greenpeace who militates against Apple using hazardous substances in their products. With the risk of sounding a bit hippy I think it is a good cause and if you believe in it maybe you could take a stand through their website.

walking on the road of life...

Yesterday I came across a passage written by Ayn Rand. I really enjoyed reading it so I decided to share it with you guys:

“In the name of the best within you, do not sacrifice this world to those who are its worst. In the name of the values that keep you alive, do not let your vision of man be distorted by the ugly, the cowardly, the mindless in those who have never achieved his title. Do not lose your knowledge that man's proper estate is an upright posture, an intransigent mind and a step that travels unlimited roads. Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it's yours.”

I love this text very much since I belive that you shouldn't let the people around you negatively influence the person that you are or the values that you live by. Nevertheless. more often than not I find it a difficult thing to do. Unfortunately, the ugly seems to have a greater impact than the beautiful...

Loneliness as a gift...

This picture gives me the feeling of loneliness and this is why i like it. As i found out recently loneliness is a gift and not a curse. This is the reason why I love the next quote so much:

Loneliness accepted becomes a gift leading one from a life dominated by tears to the discovery of one's true self and finally to the heart of longing and the love of God.

I'm afraid that from now on the quality of my photos will decrease steadily since I only have a few pics left and in normal situations I wouldn't even have posted these as I don't think they are of the quality that i desire for this blog. But i hope you guys can understand the situation and bear with me until december when i'll get my camera back. I have to admit that in the last weeks the number of visitors on the pages has increased a lot which i'm really happy about, i hope it won't decrease from now on

I also wanted to tell you about this new computer game that I have discovered. Everyone who knows me knows that I'm really not into computer or video games. In fact the only games i ever played and liked were Caesar and Sims and some shooting game . As I recently uninstalled Sims I was looking for a game that takes less time and it's also lighter on the resources of my computer. That's how i found fish tycoon. I'm really hooked on this game. It's basically about owning your own fish store in which you breed and sell fishes. It's an on going game which means that it works in real time even when you don't have it on so you need to check in regularly so you could feed the fishes. It is also lighter on your computer's resources which is great for me and you have the option to stop the time in case you are away from your computer for a few days. All the tycoon games are really nice but i guess the fish tycoon is my thing. If you have the opportunity check it out...

Oh and just one more thing. In a previous entry i was talking about a girl who was blogging from Beirut during the conflict there. I was really interested in her blog this whole time and recently she posted a link to some of the photos that she's been taking along the years. HERE you can find a selection of her photos. Some of them are really great. Her name is Mana and I think her blog is an inspiration and her art work is even better.

ok long post today... i hope you didn't get bored reading, but sometimes i tend to talk and write a lot

autumn

Today's picture was taken a while ago and for a time now I wanted to work with it in photoshop but i would always postpone it. Last night i managed to and this is what came out. I know that it would look better with a black border around it but i guess i will do that later on since it's been a bit busy around here. This picture is also taken in the old part of the town just like the previous one and the ones to come Those are the only ones that i have left

-----------------
*listening to: Justin Timberlake's new album. remember how i previously said that it doesn't matter if it's a good or a bad one i would still like it? well i was wrong...It is a bad album and i don't like it. the only songs worth listening to are "losing my way"(which has nice lyrics) and "my love"(which has a nice melody). So much for Mr. JT

Really nice this time irina, youre getting better by the day

old town

Today's picture is taken in the old town. I really like that place because it is so simple and somehow it reminds me of my childhood. Can't really explain why. Anyways it is a great place to go when i want to escape from the complicated world. The area even has a little pharmacy that looks like an old times one. I always wanted to visit it and take some pictures but i always postponed it and now it is too late. I will definitely still visit it but i won't be able to share it with you guys.

*listening to: James Brown. I just discovered his music and love it. there's nothing better to put you in a happy mood.

Man is like a pencil...

Today I thought about posting two of the pictures that i was working on with photoshop. After I took them i thought that they weren’t good enough to post them, but I still kept them. A few days ago I saw an article about blurring in photoshop and these two pictures seemed perfect for the try out. This is what came out. They don't look very natural anymore but they're not very bad either for a photoshop lesson.

Yesterday i stumbled across a short parable that I thought about posting since I liked it very much. I hope you’ll enjoy it also.
----------------------------------------------------------
In the beginning, the pencil maker spoke to the pencil saying - "there are 5 things you need to know before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and you will become the best pencil you can be"

1st - You will be able to do many great things but only if you allow yourself to be held in someone’s hand

2nd - You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time but this is required if you are to become a better pencil

3rd - You have the ability to correct any mistakes you might make

4th - The most important part of you will always be what’s on the inside

5th - No matter what the condition, you must continue to write. You must always leave a clear legible mark, no matter how difficult the situation

The pencil understood, promising to remember and went into the box fully understanding its maker's purpose

Nice! Loved the 2d one best! Sun 8-Oct-2006 22:15

I think the effect is very cool. Applied to fotos that don't have things like lightposts in them, they could be great! And, after all, anybody could take a foto of a tree -- but when you add something to it, it becomes your own art. I like it. Thu 19-Oct-2006 12:18

shadows

ok so i'm going on with posting the pictures that I have left. They're not that many but oh well. In the mean time i'm doing some work in photoshop and I just bought this really interesting photo mag. I usually read Practical Photography which is rather interesting and helpful but lately their topics do not really appeal to me. This month I decided to buy Photography Monthly, which somehow I find more interesting. There's more practical advice in this one. If anyone knows another magazine that might be more interesting please let me know.

Winning last week's photochallenge made me more eager to get my old camera back and start shooting. I just have to wait till december It's also a bad time not to have a cam since one of my friends just bought a pet snake, which is really cute. I still have to get used to it but it looked really beautiful. Love the way snakes feel when you touch them. I wish i could take some pics of it and post them

i love the shadow reflection.
the bike just in the right place back by the expose light...
cool shot!!

update

ok so I decided to give you an update on the camera thing since I have received a lot of private messages about it. I wanted to thank everybody who wrote and your support means a lot to me. When I started to write this blog I was going through a difficult time and I think one of the reasons why i did it was also because i felt a bit lonely. But in a short period of time I made a lot of new friends and I'm really happy about it.

well the camera is now officially broken. After talking to my parents I realized that it was kind of an old camera and the costs of repairing it are probably higher than buying a new one. In case of zoom problems they usually just replace the whole thing. So my dad just encouraged me to take it apart and see if i can repair it myself and if not this would be a good opportunity for me to see what's inside My dad always encourages me to do this, and I'm really happy that he does. So I took it apart and at first I managed to take a few pictures (before there was the zoom error which didn't allow me to take any pictures). So anyways the one above is the last picture taken with my cam Since it wasn't working anymore i took it completely apart. Even now it's still working but it doesn't have a zoom inside anymore I can use it as a flash card reader i guess. Well at least now i know how a digital camera works and what's inside.

Since I won't be able to get my old camera back till december when I'll visit my parents I decided that I'll learn some more of photoshop and post also the pictures that i have left on my computer. I'm sure I would like to write on this blog from time to time since this place means a lot to me. I'll surely also visit all your fotopages.

I, for one, LIKE that blurred picture that your broken camera took Good luck in finding a new one! Mon 2-Oct-2006 23:51

You could do a "What Is It?" contest with the broken one! For example, I THINK that this is a foto of your head and face, but it might be an egg or a footprint. I'll bet you'd get a lot of participants and would have a lot of fun. Thu 19-Oct-2006 13:40

sad news!

Well boys and girls, yesterday my camera broke down so I guess no more photos for me I'm still really sad about it but i guess i need to get over it I read some articles about it over the internet and it seems that the same happened to other people having this cam. The bad part is that it's out of warranty so I don't know if there's anything that can be done. I'll send it to a repair shop I guess in the next few days and we'll see. If anyone had an experience with de-blocking the zoom of a cam please message me. I read over the internet about people that managed to do it but i'm not really sure of the direction in which you have to twist and pull the zoom.

I still have a few pictures that i want to post but i think after some time I'll be left with none. Well I guess it's time for me to learn photoshop and play with that in the mean time. My friend was always telling me how badly i need to learn photohshop and his wish came true Maybe it's karma cause just the other day i was talking to him about how bad this camera is and how i could improve so much more with a bigger and better one. We have a saying in romanian: "gifts will be taken back if you complain about them" hehehehe Probably that happened to me

I'm still thinking what to do because i kind of liked the idea of a blog as well. Maybe i'll continue with that later on. Don't worry I won't post rubbish like.."oh i straightened up my hair today". Probably i'll just post when i think i have something interesting to say. well..i'll just wait to see if there's anything i can do about the cam before making a decision...

have a nice week-end y'all...mine was supposed to be a great one since I handed in my thesis yesterdays so for the first time in a long time I have a free week-end. It's weird not having anything to do for a whole 2 days!!!

p.s. I managed to see Fearless last night. The fights were ok and the story too but it wasn't as nice as Hero and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.Still I liked it and they're better than the Hollywood action crap.

p.p.s. I just saw this really nice webpage and i had to edit the entry and share it with you. There's this website that broadcasts 24h a day live images of african wildlife. Here's the address. It's pretty interesting and addictive as well

That pic looks pretty cool ya know!! Sorry to hear about ur camera. U should give it a name and have a burial for it's little soul - helps with the healing process, so i'm told ! What about "Ted the camera" ...? P.S thanks 4 ur comment Tue 3-Oct-2006 16:51

movies movies

I have just realized looking through my pictures that lately I only take photos at night. So i guess the next few entries will be night captures. That seems to be the only time of the day when I like to get out of the house. Everything seems nicer by night somehow.

This picture is taken in the old part of the city in Linkoping and I somehow like it because of the ghost-like figure and the color. Well i hope you like it as well. I was trying to find a nice quote that goes with this but couldn't find any.

And on a totally unrelated topic I was thinking yesterday that I should talk about these really nice movies that I saw recently. I'm ashamed to say that I'm a big fan of cheesy American romantic crap usually, but my friends told me about these Chinese movies that are supposed to be really good. And so I watched them. I think now I can say that they are on my list of favorite movies. Probably most of you guys have seen them already cause they're pretty known, but i've thought to talk about it anyways. The movies are "Hero", "House of Flying Daggers" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". I'm not a big fan of fights and things like this, but the fights in these movies are amazing. Even more so their costumes are like from a fairy tale. It's worth seeing them if you didn't do so already. Besides, “Fearless” is out in the cinemas now, which is more or less the same type of movie.

And talking about movies...sunday was a big day for me...I went to the cinema to see a movie all by myself. It was a first time for me. It wasn't that bad or difficult actually...I guess i'll do it again sometimes Part of my Declaration of Independence oh yeah...the movie that I saw was "over the hedge". It was nicely made but the story is not that great.

hmmm...it looks like a long post today. I guess it's because it is so great to take a break from writing the thesis and do something else

Oooh, very nice I like this shot. I'm a big fan of the fight scenes, The Matrix (1) being my favorite. The cartoon movies now are such a letdown I miss the good disney movies like Aladdin and Lion King.. now all they have is this 3D crap.. Sat 30-Sep-2006 03:50
