Abstract
|
|
It's been snowing here in the past days so i've played around with some pictures of snow. This is what came out.
On a different subject...after i've posted the pictures with the crabs i've received a few e-mails on this subject from some of you, which raised some interesting questions about culture and animal treatment. As you might have noticed Click posted a link to my previous entry regarding the bad treatment of animals here in Korea. The website talked about the horrible (after western standards) treatment that dogs go through before they are killed in order to be eaten. I think this is a possible good example of cultural differences and that is why i found the following letter (which Click was kind enough to share with me and now with you) very interesting. It's a very well written letter about cultural gap and animal abuse. I thought to post it here in case you would like to know more about it.

guess what!
|
|
can you guess what live animal this is? I found it really interesting when i saw them for sale in a supermarket here in Mokpo. Didn't really know what to make of it first. It turns out Koreans buy it as a pet!

* listening to: Laura Pausini "La solitudine" ( i forgot about this song but a friend reminded me about it. it's a nice one!). I've thought a lot of times to stop this "listening to" part of my posts but it seems that people do look at it and listen to some of the songs so it does have a purpose.

I really like today's picture since it inspires peace and tranquility. It might be that i like it so much also because i really enjoyed the place where it was taken. It was one of those rare sights in the Korean landscape.
I've finally managed to go around and visit some places around the city and i've took some pictures as well. They're coming soon.
On a different subject...one thing i wanted to ask of you is to please leave comments on the fp only if you think you have something to share or to communicate. I dislike comments that only contain some emoticons simply because they don't have a message and that's what comments are all about. Any such comment will be deleted. Any other positive or negative/private or public messages are more than welcomed.

*listening to: Laura Pausini " E Ritorno Da Te" ( i only like a few italian singers and she's one of my favorites. the lyrics of the song are really nice as well. sad but nice )

Last ones from the rocks
|
|
These are the last ones from my lovely afternoon in Ulsan. I miss that place although here there are even nicer ones. Didn't really take a lot of photos yet cause the weather is so cold. I was stubborn enough to continue jogging up till now but i guess i'll let the cold weather win this one. It's even snowing sometimes, which never happened in Ulsan.
I wanted to say thank you for the private messages and the e-mails i received with your favorite pictures and a big shout out to Danny for the funny e-mail about the pics. You'll never change, will you?
I also wanted to share with you some impressions about the movie that i saw tonight: "Empire of the Sun". I was planning to read the book first cause i heard it's amazing but since we got the DVD i decided to see the movie before. I haven't seen such a good movie in a while. If you haven't seen it yet, i would recommend that you do cause you'll be impressed by it, especially for being a real story.

rocks in Ulsan II
|
|
I guess i'll continue posting some more pictures from Ulsan. Don't have anything interesting from Mokpo yet. I always take my camera with me but somehow there's nothing interesting in town to capture. Well actually I don't see the interesting things cause there's always something interesting to capture around us.
on a different topic...I'm in a bit of a dillema: a friend of mine has offered to maybe publish some of my photos in a Romanian magazine so I'm supposed to choose some pictures and send them to him. It's nothing for sure so no reason to get excited but i was thinking of what pictures i would choose. Since the magazine is B&W the pics should have a good contrast. Which one would you choose? Any advice on my fp or in private are welcome.

*listening to: well... THIS. If you're curious what Romanian music (with Russian influences) sounds like this is your chance. I'm kind of hooked on this song maybe because i like the singer a lot. She's Ukranian actually but she's been living in Romania for many years now.

Click mentioned skin diving in the comment from my previous post so I remembered of this picture that i took of the women diving for sea fruits. It was freezing outside and yet this group of older women were in the cold cold water looking for fruits. I don't even think they make good money for that, which is really sad. I can't imagine how they don't get sick. They didn't even have a place where to get warm after getting out of the water.
In other order of ideas, last night i went to see Deja Vu (that's right! I still enjoy going to the cinema alone:)). I thought i'd mention the movie because i found the basic idea rather interesting in a mind twisting kind of way. It's one of those things that gets you in a thinking loop which makes your head spin. The story in itself is kind of boring and has a hollywoodish ending, but i liked the idea of destiny and parallel realities.
As a last thing i wanted to share with you my first victory in the puzzle world. After many attempts I finally managed to finish a puzzle! I thought of taking a picture of it before putting it up on the wall

*listening to: The Clovers "Love potion number nine" ( great song!)

rocks in Ulsan
|
|
I still have some pictures from Ulsan that i wanted to share with you so i thought about posting them. They were taken at the rocks in the town, which is a lovely place to go to. It was a nice sunny afternoon and I had a really nice time there.
Some people asked me how Mokpo is so i'll tell a bit more about it. It's a much smaller town compared with Ulsan but it has a very nice landscape (much nicer than Ulsan). It has a lot of places to walk and many places where you could do outdoor sports. I wish i would have my roller skates with me, not that i'm good at it or anything but there are a lot of places here for that and it would be fun.
People here seem very sporty and much friendlier as well. I guess they're also less used to foreigners. We get stared at a lot. I still wonder sometimes what is it with Koreans and their admiration for the white people. If you have low self esteem about the way you look this is the place to come. You get told many times a day how beautiful you are, just because you have Caucasian features. I kind of feel bad about it cause it's not a virtue to be white so I shouldn't get any special treatment, but I guess they just need to get used to foreigners around here.
It's also supposed to be the best place for eating seafood in Korea but i haven't tried it yet. The Fisherman's Warf and the fish market are both really impressive. Maybe i'll take some pics of it soon. Well that's all i have for now about Mokpo since this darn cold is keeping me indoors.

*listening to: Bon Jovi "You give love a bad name" (i think it's their best song and i promise this is the last Bon Jovi song I write about )

Good Bye Ulsan...Hello Mokpo!
|
|
So I managed to move to a new town together with my parents. Didn't have so much time for photography as you can imagine since there's a lot of unpacking involved. The town seems nice although for 40.000 citizens there are millions of love motels in town. They sure are passionate around here! I only managed to take some pictures from the terrace. The view is really nice. I love the sea so I'm really happy being so close to it. Once i get some more time i'll post more pics from Ulsan since i got some nice ones.

*listening to: Bon Jovi "This ain't a love song" (i really enjoy listing to their old songs again)

try-outs
|
|
For a long time i've been seeing these shots of droplets in a glass in most photo magazines so now that i have the equipment i thought about trying it myself...after 2 hours of taking shots and fixing glasses of water these are the best captures. The first one doesn't even have a droplet in it but i liked the colors somehow. Looking back at it I think i figured out what i was doing wrong so i hope to try it again soon and see what comes out.
talking about photography...I have come across THIS website of a Romanian photographer. You can find more of his pics on the left hand side. Too bad you can't magnify the pictures but i thought it is still worth mentioning...
----------------------
* listening to: Bon Jovi "Always" (it is in my opinion one of the best rock ballads). It seems I'm in a Bon Jovi mood these days!

winter time
|
|
so today's pictures are also taken around a temple, but this time a different temple as well as at a different time. It's the dry season here so there's plenty of sun and nice weather although it is still cold.
the other day I was able to see a LNG in construction. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to take any pictures, which is bad cause it was an impressive ship. I've seen a few ships before but i've never been so impressed by a ship before. Some piece of equipment!!!
on a different subject, I have come across THIS website, which seemed to me as an interesting and unusual way of dealing with pollution. Don't really know if the idea will pick up or even if it's efficient, but it's an out of the ordinary one and i thought it is worth mentioning.

*listening to: Smokie "If you think you know how to love me" ( I like it better than the Pat Benatar version...a bit more country)
